A Message from the Dean

In the name of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful.

Praise be to Allah the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; and peace and blessings be upon the seal of prophets Mohamed (PBUH), his family and companions.

Welcome to the Deanship of Academic Research at the University of Bahri.

The Deanship is committed to strengthening academic research, supporting researchers, improving the quality of scientific production, encouraging research funding, and creating an environment that enables researchers and students to contribute effectively to knowledge and sustainable development.

The Deanship also works to organize conferences, workshops and training programmes, establish partnerships and scientific relationships, and strengthen the University’s role in serving society through research and innovation.

Through the Scientific Research Council, Research and Grants Council, Scientific Publication Council and Scientific Ethics Committee, the Deanship seeks to promote responsible, high-quality and impactful research.

We welcome constructive ideas and initiatives that contribute to the development of academic research at the University of Bahri.

About the Deanship

Establishment, vision, mission, objectives, organizational structure and departments.

Establishment

The establishment of Deanships of Academic Research in Sudanese universities was based on the National Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research Resolution No. (55) of 2009, Article (2), with the purpose of supporting technology transfer and providing scientific and research guidance.

The University of Bahri established its Deanship of Academic Research under the Vice-Chancellor’s Resolution No. (16/A16) 2011/16.

The University of Bahri was established to accommodate Northern Sudanese affiliates from Juba, Upper Nile and Baher Elghazal following the separation of South Sudan on 9 July 2011.

The University continues to build upon the academic heritage of the University of Juba and operates in both Arabic and English.

The Deanship of Academic Research aims to establish itself as a pioneer research body nationally, regionally and internationally, with research priorities based on the needs of the community and humanity.

Vision

A pioneer university based on the production of excellent academic research and the service of humanity in general and the Sudanese community in particular.

Mission

Production and promotion of excellent academic research and linking it to the communities’ reality and needs for the achievement of sustainable development.

Objectives

  1. 1 Activation of the spirit of academic research and promotion of scientific standards and measures.
  2. 2 Providing a conducive research environment and building the capacity of staff and students.
  3. 3 Establishing scientific and research relationships with concerned institutions and organizations internally and externally.
  4. 4 Strengthening the relationship between the university as a producer of research and public/private sectors as users and marketers of research outputs.
  5. 5 Keeping pace with international scientific and epistemological developments and contributing to human civilization.

  16. Determining research priorities based on scientific measures and development needs.

Department of Research and Grants

The Department seeks to attract funding for individual and group research projects approved by the Department Council, in collaboration with colleges, university centres and internal and external stakeholders.

It seeks to stimulate scientific research, improve research standards, establish continuous relationships with research institutions, keep pace with scientific and global knowledge, contribute to civilization, provide scientific outputs and solutions, link research to development needs and enhance the University’s contribution to development.

About the Department

This is the section entrusted with the production and dissemination of knowledge. This production may include scientific research papers, articles, books, summarized books and translations from English to Arabic or vice versa.

The Department values knowledge that contributes to human development and serves the university and the wider Sudanese community.

The University of Bahri Journal for Arts and Sciences (UBJAS) bears the responsibility for publishing and disseminating scientific research papers, while the newsletter disseminates news about new activities inside and outside the university.

  • Preparation of the University of Bahri Journal of Arts and Sciences twice a year in Arabic and English.
  • Publication of a monthly newsletter.
  • Translation of university regulations and basic codes.
  • Connecting the university with the community through publication of research addressing community issues.
  • Strengthening scientific and intellectual relations with other universities and publishers.
  • Expanding electronic dissemination of scientific and cultural production.
  • Establishing publishing policies and regulations.
  • Publishing research produced by university professors.

The Scientific Publication Council is the permanent body responsible for planning, directing and developing publication policies and supervising scientific publication activities.

It was formed by Administrative Decision No. (658-A 658) by the Rector on January 25, 2014.

The Council meets at the invitation of its President at least once every two months. Emergency meetings may also be called when necessary.

Meetings are legally constituted when two-thirds of members are present. Decisions are taken by a simple majority of those present.

About Us

The Department of Training was established in 2011 as one of the departments within the Deanship of Academic Research.

It is responsible for promoting the research skills of University of Bahri staff and other researchers through training courses, seminars, lectures and workshops.

The Department also administers the University’s research prize.
