أُنشئت جامعة بحري فى يوليو من العام 2011م في ظل ظروف استثنائية شهدت خلالها البلاد تحولات عميقة فى بنيتها السياسية والاجتماعية جراء انفصال الجنوب، والذي ترتب عليه عودة الجامعات

تنشد جامعة بحري أن تكون المؤسسة المعرفية الأولى في أفريقيا و الوطن العربي . وتعمل جامعة بحري على تقديم تعليم مميز وبحث علمي مبتكر وتسعى لتلبية حاجات المجتمع ومواكبة متغيرات العصر.

تعمل جامعة بحري في إطار عمل مؤسسي تحكمه أجهزة وتضبط أداءه وتوزع الأدوار بين المجالس والمسئولين، كل حسب اختصاصه- ففي أعلي هرم السلطة في الجامعة مجلس الجامعة، يليه مدير الجامعة
