About the College
Historical Background
Sudan is predominantly an agricultural country, with agriculture forming the backbone of its economy. To realize its potential as a breadbasket for the Middle East, it must effectively utilize its vast natural resources.
The present College of Agriculture is the result of the integration of the College of Agriculture at Upper Nile University and the Department of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Juba.
Since its establishment in 2011, the College of Agriculture at the University of Bahri has aimed to adopt modern and up-to-date academic and technical approaches to meet the current and future needs of the country and its people.
The College strives to produce highly qualified professionals and technical supervisors at all levels, including PhD, MSc, BSc, diploma and certificate holders across various specializations.
The College also seeks to maintain a strong relationship with the farming community by identifying and addressing agricultural challenges through applied research and an effective feedback system.

Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness
The Department of Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness combines expertise from different disciplines within the College of Agriculture and joins two distinct yet closely related social science disciplines in a common purpose.
The Department focuses on research, teaching and outreach in agriculture and food, environment and natural resources, community and regional development, international development, and population processes and change.
Vision
To be a premier source of education, research, and leadership in development of agricultural economics and agribusiness.
Mission
Engages graduates in the use of economic analysis for making decisions involving agribusinesses, natural resources, and communities through learning, leadership, diversity, professional development and excellence.
Objectives
- Respond highly to priority issues facing society in agribusiness, natural resources, environmental quality and communities.
- Prepare graduates for employment through development of leadership and communication skills.
- Conduct applied research programs to analyze business and public policy issues.
- Enhance the use of economic principles and research methods in solving economic problems.

Department of Pests and Plant Health
The Department focuses on pest management and plant health while supporting compliance with international laws and policies related to agricultural products and plant health.

To be a leading and vibrant centre of excellence for training, research, development, preservation and dissemination of knowledge in plant health and environmental conservation.
Mission
The Department provides a conducive learning environment for quality education and training, innovative research and technology development, consultancy and community service.
Objectives

- Equip graduates with laws and protocols for detection and inspection of pests.

Department of Crop Science
Sudan has vast agricultural lands distributed across different regions. The majority of the Sudanese people depend on producing edible and industrial crops for their livelihoods.

A leader in agricultural education, locally, regionally and internationally.
Mission
Produce trained and equipped students with professional knowledge, technical skills and ethics that enable them to serve the community in agriculture.
Objectives
- Equip students with concepts, principles and technologies to develop field crops.
- Support promising crops of nutritional and industrial importance through applied research.
- Inform students about crop potentiality in Sudan and rational resource use.
- Increase awareness of the economic, nutritional and health effects of field crops.

Department of Soil and Water Science
Soil and water are vital resources in agricultural, urban and natural ecosystems. The Department of Soil and Water Science provides education and research related to soil and water management, agricultural productivity and conservation of natural resources.
Vision
Excellence and leadership in soil and water science through organized and updated educational programs and scientific research serving local, national and international communities.
Mission
The Department trains highly professional undergraduates with knowledge and skills in soil and water analysis and management through accredited education and innovative research.
Objectives
- Provide students with techniques and technology for soil resource management.
- Equip graduates with skills for inventory and characterization of soil capacity.
- Train students in modern information and technologies in soil science.
Department of Horticulture
Sudan is characterized by diversity of water sources and highly productive fertile soils. Increasing population density has created high demand for horticultural production to meet food and health needs.
Vision
The Department of Horticulture aims to be a prominent leader in developing proficient leadership in horticultural science nationally and internationally.
Mission
The Department provides programs in various horticultural specializations that prepare professional horticulturists through integrated academic excellence.
Objectives
- Raise graduates’ awareness about horticultural concepts and potentiality.
- Acquaint graduates with advanced technologies and their applications in horticultural production.
- Prepare highly professional graduates able to compete worldwide.
Department of Food Safety and Quality
Food safety has become an increasingly serious global concern. Food science is a multidisciplinary field encompassing chemistry, microbiology and biotechnology.
The Food Quality and Safety program addresses all aspects of food production, from field to fork.
Students are required to successfully complete 192 credit hours, including 70 credit hours dedicated specifically to their area of specialization.
Students also gain practical experience through training in relevant public and private food establishments.

To become a leading center of excellence and a primary reference at national and regional levels in food quality and safety education.
Mission
To graduate highly competent professionals capable of addressing critical gaps in food safety measures, meeting the needs of the food sector and serving the wider community.
Objectives
- Graduate highly qualified students who can meet the needs of the food industry and related establishments as food safety specialists.
