Introduction:

The Department of Basic Sciences is one of the departments of the College of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, University of Bahri. The main task of the Department is to handle and/or coordinate the teaching of the University, College and Interdepartmental requirement courses. As such, the Department is considered as service unit only and does not issue undergraduate degrees.

Vision:

The vision of the Department of Basic Sciences is to build a concrete scientific knowledge base for the college current and future specializations

Mission:

To prepare the students for the future studies in both theory and practical aspects of science and help them to develop the scientific thinking.

Objectives:

To build strong base in basic sciences; Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematical sciences both in theory and practical parts. To create a scientifically – trained students for their future specializations. To prepare the students to address the new challenges e.g. Environment and climate change issues etc. and to execute their future scientific reaches. To avail and coordinate college common courses those are taught in the different college departments.

Introduction:

The Department of Environmental Studies is dedicated to an interdisciplinary approach to environmental scholarship, and to formation of a more ecologically sustainable society, both on our country and throughout the world. The syllabi were developed taking in to consideration the interest of the various stakeholders that deals with environmental management in different ministries, institutes and councils in the country. The department offers a five years Honours Degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies with specialization in Environment. The program consists of university courses (10%), College courses (34%), department and interdepartmental courses (56%).

Vision:

The Bachelor in Environmental Studies program provides a well-rounded, interdisciplinary study approach that cross the traditional boundaries of natural, humanitarian and applied sciences as well as their respective discipline including biology, chemistry, physic, ecology, geology, etc., to equip students with the knowledge, critical understanding and capacity to deal effectively and sensitively with complex environmental challenges arising at the local, regional, national and/or global scale.

Mission:

A safer environmental quality that is provided from sustaining environmental development which depends on system integrity that caters for natural systems balance based on physical, social and economic approaches.

General Objectives:

The general objectives of the department are to graduate professional environmentalist eligible to interact significantly with the program’s related to improvement of environmental quality, safety and security at the local, national and international communities. The department also aims to addresses environmental researches which are physically, ecologically, economically and socially integrated to raise the awareness of the concerned authorities and communities and recommend for ideal system of management of the environment.

Introduction:

When having a look to fisheries potential in Sudan and its vast resources and when giving a glance to the fisheries institutions that were established long ago, we can see that their contribution in this field is very little. So we have to dig further to find a way out and point to the obstacles and hindrances that stand against the development in a vital and promising sector. Such obstacles and problems make it necessary to have a curriculum that suits and deals with the present status and elevates the knowledge – know how for the students to enable them to grasp the science in this field and make them useful to their local community and the whole country.

Vision:

Utilization of the recent advancements in knowledge and technology in teaching, training, conducting research and improving the academic environment to up -grade the department to the level of a school or a college.

Mission:

Provision of an integral package of knowledge, that aims at studying, monitoring and understanding of the characteristics and potentialities of fishery resources in Sudan, and the methods of how to conserve and sustain them for the coming generations.

Objectives:

1.To equip students with knowledge and skills that enables them to boost the development in the sector of fisheries. 2.To train qualified academic cadre in teaching fishery sciences, a competent researcher and skilled professional to assist in management of fishery resources and fish farms. 3.To provide students with conceptual and methodological tools that could help them to develop an interdisciplinary understanding about the complex factors that negatively influence the effectiveness of fisheries development plans.

Introduction:

The Department of Forestry is one of the departments of the College of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, University of Bahri. It is a result of merging the experiences of the Department of Forestry of the University of Juba and the College of Forestry and Range Sciences of the Upper Nile University, after the separation of Southern Sudan. The establishment of the University of Bahri necessitated the development of a curriculum which can cope with the rapid development of science and technology in forestry field and climatic change. A curriculum committee was formed from the department staff members considering the different forestry specialization. The committee revised the curriculum of the University of Juba and other forestry curricula in and outside Sudan. Then curriculum was developed taking into consideration country needs and policies as well as the interest and the opinions of different stakeholders in forestry. New courses and topics have been added to the revised curriculum to address new challenges in forestry and natural resources management. The department offers a five years B.Sc. Honors Degree in Forestry. The program consists of university courses (10%), College courses (34%), interdepartmental courses (15) and department courses (41%).

The vision of the Department of Forestry is to advance forestry and related natural resources through practical education and innovation that enhances the productivity and sustainability of these resources

Mission:

The mission of the Department of Forestry is to prepare professional foresters eligible to interact positively with target career with excellence and relevance

General Objective:

The general objectives of the revised B.Sc. (Forestry) curriculum are to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the principles of forestry in terms of science and practice and to graduate foresters who have key skills that are required to apply forestry practices that lead to sustainable development.

Wildlife

Background:

The Department of Wildlife is no doubt the mother of wildlife sciences in the Sudan. It was established in 1977 as a unit in the “larger” and the “first” College of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies of the formerly University of Juba. The department has continued carrying the same name in the University of Bahri. The department has reformulated its vision, mission and amended its curriculum to resume its pioneer role in wildlife expertise. Most of the recently established units in the universities relied on the experience of the University of Bahri’ Wildlife Department Staff Members to develop their curricula.

Vision:

The department vision is to develop a sound leadership in wildlife expertise nationally and regionally.

Mission:

The department mission is the preparation of competent professionals in wildlife science; management, conservation and production through integrated academic excellence.

Objectives:

The department aims to perform the following objects: Transfer information and technology to the farming community in the field of domestication of wild animals. Develop concurrent courses and other types of partnerships with peer institutions. Maintain excellence in scientific education and research as applied to the wildlife management, conservation and production. Promote natural resource stewardship in relation to well-planned, sustainable economic development and to address the quality of wild animals and habitats for the citizens of the country and its visitors.
