Head of the Department:
Dr. Ibrahim Osman Kanou
The Department of Wildlife is no doubt the mother of wildlife sciences in the Sudan. It was established in 1977 as a unit in the “larger” and the “first” College of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies of the formerly University of Juba. The department has continued carrying the same name in the University of Bahri. The department has reformulated its vision, mission and amended its curriculum to resume its pioneer role in wildlife expertise. Most of the recently established units in the universities relied on the experience of the University of Bahri’ Wildlife Department Staff Members to develop their curricula.
The department vision is to develop a sound leadership in wildlife expertise nationally and regionally.
The department mission is the preparation of competent professionals in wildlife science; management, conservation and production through integrated academic excellence.
The department aims to perform the following objects: Transfer information and technology to the farming community in the field of domestication of wild animals. Develop concurrent courses and other types of partnerships with peer institutions. Maintain excellence in scientific education and research as applied to the wildlife management, conservation and production. Promote natural resource stewardship in relation to well-planned, sustainable economic development and to address the quality of wild animals and habitats for the citizens of the country and its visitors.
