Participation of the University of Bahri – Deanship of Libraries in the activities of Consortium for Sudanese Academic Libraries (SALC)

A joint meeting attended by the Association of Sudanese Universities, Administrative Board of the Consortium for Sudanese Academic Libraries and the Executive Body was held on 30th Jan, 2016 at Meeting Hall of Secretariat for Academic Affairs – University of Khartoum.  The Dean of the Deanship of libraries has attended the meeting as a member of the Administrative Board of the Consortium.

The formation of the Consortium has been developed due to the need of the academic institutions to cope with quick advancement in field of Information and Libraries, because the ranking of Universities internationally depends on Digital Repository and their presence in the Website.

The objective of the meeting was to evaluate the feasibility of the Consortium establishment, to seek the possibility of its financing, executing and to make sure the readiness to forecast the expected constraints and to deal with them, to figure out the specific and real requirements that lessen the possibility of the failure (Provided that the plan has its management and control elements).

The Consortium aims at building of data base for the academic institutions, consolidating the co operation among the member libraries, unifying the working mechanisms and tools according to the Library Professional Standards, rationalizing expenditure and realizing the optimum use of human resource. All these could be satisfied by rendering the following:

  1. Technical support (installation of the Integrated Library System and Digital Repository of the institution).
  2. Capacity building and training.
  3. Technical Consultancy
  4. Subscription in Electronic Database Sources.

The Integrated Library System depends on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) that can deliver the required service with high efficiency and can escape the economical embargo imposed on the Sudan.

  • Association of Sudanese Universities.
  • Administrative Board of the Consortium for Sudanese Academic Libraries(The dean of the deanship of libraries- University of Bahri- As a member).
  • Executive Body of the Consortium.
  • Technical Body.
