FORWARD

With all warm-heartedness, I would like to welcome the students of Batch Five to the University of Bahri, who came all the way down from various parts of Sudan, and some sisterly African and Arab countries, for the noble sake of receiving knowledge from the University of Quality and Excellence in their quest for being outstanding.

In order to make their university life rich and happy, our sons and daughters, the students are kindly requested to exert utmost effort, and persistently work hard towards  building their intellectual and scientific capacity through continuous knowledge seeking , making use of the  vast diversity of  resources provided by the university . By doing so, they will acquire knowledge, and achieve learning necessary for developing faculties needed for sound analysis, realizing useful knowledge, and devoting it for the good of their homeland.

The University of Bahri, at this point of time includes 19 colleges, and 3 specialized centers, in addition to Scientific Research Deanship, and an administration for Quality and Development. Most of the University colleges are located at the main campus at South Umm Al-Gurra in Kaddaro suburb of rural Khartoum North locality. It occupies a space of 130 Fedans. The main campus accommodates   11 colleges including: The College of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, the College of Animal Production, the College of Agriculture, the College of Education, the College of Law, the College of   Applied and Industrial Science, the College of Social and Economic Science, the College of   Engineering and Architecture, the College of   Community Studies and Rural Development , the College of   Petroleum Geology and Minerals  and the College of  Management Sciences, in addition to investment and experimental  farms .  The main campus also includes several deanships and administrations that are directly related to students, namely: Secretariat for Academic Affairs, Deanship of Students` Affairs, Central Library, Administration of Health Services, Financial Administration, and Administration of Services. The College of Veterinary Medicine  lies at Kaddaro , the College of Humanities lies to the West of  Khartoum North main railway station , while the other colleges and centers of the University  are located at  various compounds and premises , including : (1) Khartoum 3 Compound where the College of Medicine is located   (2)  Remaila Compound which accommodates the College of Public and Environmental Health and the College of  Nursing (3)  Duyoum Shargia Compound overlooking  St.55 Amarat where College of Computer Sciences and Centre for Distance Learning are situated   (4) Compound of   St.53 Amarat where  The Graduate College, College  of Languages and Translation,   Centre for Peace and Development Studies, and Deanship of Scientific Research   are situated , (5)  Sehafa District Compound which accommodates The Centre for Human Resources Development and Continuous Education.

This is the fourth edition of Student Prospectus (guide), published to familiarize   new in-take students with the University and to get them acquainted with the role they are expected to play during the march of their University life. This prospectus briefly touches on the profile of the University, its history, colleges, administrative structure, rules and regulations pertaining to admission and registration, awarding of degrees, in addition to Student Disciplinary Regulations. This prospectus also shows the academic calendar for the academic year 2015-2016.

Hence, students are strongly advised to get acquainted with this guide and abide by its contents, so that they can achieve their aspired goals in terms of fruitful knowledge and academic acquisition.

May I take this opportunity, to congratulate the University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ayoub Adam Mohammed Khalil and his deputy Dr. Abdu Ellah Kunna on the successful end of last academic year, asking Allah to support them in their tireless efforts to serve the University and carry on the march of administrating its academic, financial and administrative affairs till it occupies it distinguished rank among pioneer local, regional and international universities. We are profoundly thankful to Mr. Mohammed Abdelkarim Suleiman, who contributed very effectively in the preparation and editing of the previous versions of this guide.

Finally, I pass my heartfelt wishes to all members of the University of Bahri Community and ask  God to give them wisdom to recognize and  shoulder their sacred responsibly towards the university and realize it motto, everyone in his/her   field of specialty.

Vision

A leader in the management of the University’s Academic activity in which positive interaction is maintained in its affairs and the requirements of programs and stakeholders

 

Mission

The secretariat aspires to provide outstanding services in its mission that include: improving the general academic performance at the university, students’ admission and training, staff training, designing and implementing curricula and examinations, issuing certificates, and preparing academic directives and regulations.

 

Objectives

The secretariat strives to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Promoting the general academic performance at the University and monitoring the proper requirements for its realization.
  2. Enabling students to achieve high quality levels of professional goals
  3. Recruiting active and distinguished academic staff in the fields of teaching, scientific research and community service.
  4. Guaranteeing the proper implementation of up-to-date curricula, study plans and relevant study programs
  5. Establishing a culture of adherence to academic regulations and directives to be strictly maintained by staff members, employees and students
  6. Attaining the highest levels of accuracy, honesty and discipline required in the processes of conducting examinations, the storage of results and in issuing and authenticating certificates for graduates

Means 

The secretariat adopts the following means to attain its objectives:

  1. Provision of the necessary infrastructure for the educational process in cooperation with the concerned authorities.
  2. Admission of students with high competitive percentages
  3. Recruitment of a high caliber academic staff and cooperating with Visiting Professors, Fellows and external part-time staff with long experience – in coordination with colleges and centres.
  4. Designing modern curricula that attract students and meet the demands of the work-market
  5. Preparation of directives and regulations that govern the running of the educational process as well as the dissemination of these directives and regulations to their respective destinations.
  6. Careful selection of the cadre and ancillary staff for the secretariat and provision of a clear mechanism to monitor their performance.

Departments

Secretariat for Academic Affairs

The Secretariat for Academic Affairs works, in coordination with Deputy Vice Chancellor’s office and the various colleges and centres, to ensure the proper organization and implementation of academic matters at the University. The Secretariat has six departments asfollows:

  1. Department of Senate Affairs

This department organizes the activities of the Senate of the University, executes its decisions and keeps the records of its minutes, follows up the assigned tasks of the senate’s committees, supervises theappointment of staff members and teaching assistants. It also drafts and formulates the academic calendar and monitors the examinations in the University.

  1. Department of Admission and Registration

This section checks and receives the nomination lists of students from the National Bureau of Admission, supervises students’ registration, disseminates students’ lists to their related colleges and centres; besides, it supervises the admission for Diploma Degrees, upgrading to B.A Degrees and Distance Educationfor all the colleges and centres of the University.

  1. Department of Examination

The department verifies, analyzes examination results after being endorsed by the Senate and keeps a permanent record of it. In addition, the Unit issues scientific certificates and compiles the annual lists of graduating students.

  1. Department of Training

The department regulates the training of staff members through internal and external scholarships and grants in collaboration with the colleges, the university, the general Directorate of training of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and donating institutions.

  1. Department of Statistics and Information

The section compiles the statistics of the secretariat in computer data bases and updates them. In addition to that, the section publishes the student’s guide and that of the university as well as the other formal publications of the university including: brochures and news-letters or circulars that further the mission and objectives of the secretariat. The section also works to promote the secretariat’s website and regularly updates it

. 6. Unit of Academic Follow-up

This section records and monitors the teaching load for all academic programs in the University (Technical Diplomas, Bachelor Degrees, Distance Education and Postgraduate Studies). It also keeps accurate lists of all the available lecture-Rooms along with their capacities to ensure their optimum usage for lectures. In addition, the section monitors the distribution of these lecture-rooms and teaching timetables in coordination with registrars of colleges and centres
