1- Mineral Resources
a) Gold Mining:
The gold mining had been known in ancient civilizations of the Nile Valley. The area extended from Red Sea to Egypt was known as Arid El maadan (Gold). At present the belt extending from Gabait Elmaadan through to Northern Kordofan is active in traditional and modern mining. Southern Blue Nile and Eastern Southern Kordofan is booming with traditional mining.
b) Iron- Ores:
Iron- ores mining and exploitation had been known in Merowe Civilization and deposits of iron-ores can be seen near Kaboushia. Iron also had been reported in Gabal Abu Tulu in south Kordofan.
Petroleum had been discovered in 1980s, developed and exported since 1998.
Studies had shown that Petroleum and gas are available on-and offshore of the Sudan.
The undeveloped natural resource in subsurface and on the surface justifies the establishment of a specialized faculty in the University of Bahri for the graduation of highly qualified students in the field of Petroleum Geology, Hydrogeology, Mining and geophysics.
Department Petroleum Geology
The college has been established to introduce a different programs in all geological disciplines, and has been named as College of Petroleum Geology and Minerals.
The even increasing need for development and advancement in the types of offered education and trained graduates dictates the continual upgrading these department.
Based on importance and justification for the establishment of the college measuring its inimical objective to reach highest level in this domain and to meet the ever variable requirements of the rapidly expanding petroleum industry also appear to the demands of the even – increasing student’s numbers.
To match with significant advances in petroleum sciences and oil discoveries in different part of the Sudan; together with notice enable Rask towards petroleum industry there arise the need for best specialists in this field.
Graduates in this field now are leading the work in petroleum sector their efforts are well acknowledged.
The main objective is to achieve the needs of graduates and postgraduates towards the most oil industry.
So those graduates can make a future frame in a way to wide learning, apply scientific techniques, improve observation power and increase reasoning.
The programmer in this department has been put in a way to enable the student to understand the methodology of petroleum sciences with special emphasis on its geology, geophysics and Basic analysis , taking Sudan Basin as example so that to assume their rates of leadership in government sector and oil industry .
The main scientific objective lies in equipping the students with skills and knowledge that enable them to contribute effectively to their field of specialization.
To prepare the student in domain of scientific research for higher studies, the department may reach to become an excellent source in advancing petroleum sciences, offering research opportunity leading to degrees of master and PhD in petroleum sciences. The aim of these programs for future careers in teaching is to research and position of leadership in practical fields of industry whenever is needed.
