Under the auspices of the cabinet minister, the university’s vice-chancellor Prof. Ayoub Adam Mohammed Khalil and the attendance of higher education minister, in addition to ministers of environment & urban development, livestock and agriculture, University of Bahri – College of Veterinary Sciences in collaboration with the Sudanese Standards & Metrology Organization (SSMO) held a forum on animals’ health and the safety of its products on Tuesday 23/2/2016 to 24/2/2016 titled “Climate Change- Paradigm of Animals’ health & Environment” at the hall of (SSMO).
The forum was attended by officers from the National Authority for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (NAPCW)-Ministry of Defense and a number of academic researchers in this field. The first day of the forum was addressed by the dean of college of veterinary medicine, saying that the African continent is one of the most affected ones by climate change, which represents a main threat on food security,he further thanked the director of (SSMO) Dr. Awad Sakarab for hosting the forum.
The minister of higher education commended the efforts paid by the forum towards the protection of environment, encouraging partnerships in the fields of academic research for the benefit of the community.
The university’s vice-chancellor Prof. Ayoub Adam Mohammed Khalil also encouraged the partnerships among higher education institutions and state institutions in its private and public sectors. He called on adopting and implementing the recommendations made at the forum i.e. the establishment of specialized institutes of ecology and introducing ecological awareness materials in the academic syllabi
